As the second phase of Parliament's Budget Session commenced on 5 March, Andhra Pradesh MPs led protests in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha demanding Special Category status to their state.

SCS was announced in lieu of foregoing Hyderabad, which houses employment generating industries, and such a precious clause should not be foregone for some insignificant package, the YSRC leader said.CPI and CPM State secretaries K Ramakrishna and P Madhu participated in the dharna, extending their solidarity to the YSRC protest.

"To secure our rightful demand of SCS, every MP from the State must put AP first and resign from Parliament if SCS is not granted", he said.

The TDP has been demanding the Centre to fulfil all commitments made in at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

"I am confident that if we stand together we will convince the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that what is due to the people of Andhra Pradesh should be given to them", he added.

TDP MPs also continued to protest outside the Gandhi Statue in Parliament, where they could be seen chanting "We want justice". The Act mandates the centre to support the state in setting up ports, industrial complexes, infrastructure for the new capital city, irrigation projects, a railway zone and educational institutes.

The YSR Congress on the other hand is gunning for the TDP, alleging that the situation would not have arisen had the ruling party remained firm in the first place.

"But our (AP) chief minister received a call from New Delhi after which he chose to watch the developments in the coming days, based on which further decisions will be taken".

The leaders held placards which said "Save Andhra Pradesh Save Democracy" and "Follow Alliance Dharma". Stating this as the reason, the central government denied special category status to AP and instead, assured "special assistance" by promising a "special package" in 2016, to be valid from 2015 to 2020.
