Growth, the MPC says, will rebound to 7.4 percent in 2018-19 from its projection of 6.6 percent in 2017-18.

This is the fourth time, when the RBI maintained status quo on repo rate at six per cent, which is lowest in over seven years, since November 2010.

The MPC reiterated its commitment to achieving the medium-term target for headline inflation of 4 percent on a durable basis. "Another risk is from fiscal slippages by states on account of higher committed revenue expenditure".

The MPC also outlined several factors that make the inflation outlook uncertain on the upside. Sixth, recent volatility in crude prices has imparted considerable uncertainty to the near-term outlook. It may be noted that only Micheal Patra voted from a 25 bps rise in repo rate but all other members - Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Ravindra Dholakia, Viral V. Acharya and Urjit Patel voted in favour of the monetary policy decision.

The release on a lighter note also suggests the optimism of the Federal Bank in launching its own flavour of crypto-currencies.

To promote greater credit discipline among working capital borrowers, the RBI is planning a minimum level of "loan component" in fund-based working capital finance for large borrowers. This suggests that the effect of growth on inflation should be contained, stated ANZ. Yields on the 10-year G-Sec yield have moved down around 60-65 bps in last one-month post touching a two-year peak of 7.81%. Given the expectations that were built around it, it is more like a change in their stance, tone and tenor and so on.

"The RBI has cautioned on at least three occasions members of the public and users of virtual currency regarding risks they are exposing themselves to through these cryptocurrencies".

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday that it is looking at the possibility of introducing a "central bank digital currency", reports TOI. "This is just the Central Bank of India taking a stand against a technology which they are going to implement themselves in terms of a Digital Rupee".

Following its bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement, the Reserve Bank of India said it would explore launching a digital fiat currency and would take a decision on the same by June-end.

News of RBI's consideration of a central bank digital currency comes as Kanungo also announced that the bank had directed regulated entities to cease their operations with companies and individuals related to digital currencies.

Whether the central bank and the government agencies are really thinking about the betterment of the Indian financial condition or they are planning something with their vested interests, only time will tell that.

"It is essential to ensure we have a robust system for the safety and security of data on payment systems". "A data localization requirement will have significant implications for global payment system players, many of whom have centralized offshore data storage systems", Ahluwalia said.

The government had started analysing growth estimates using the GVA methodology from January 2015.
