Cameroon have declared eight of their athletes at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Australia missing according to a statement they released on Wednesday, April 11.

Fairfax media reported earlier on Wednesday that the Cameroon team had told Queensland Police five male athletes, two boxers and three weightlifters, had gone missing from the Athletes' Village.

The missing athletes are weightlifters Olivier Matam Matam, Arcangeline Fouodji Sonkbou and Petit Minkoumba, and boxers Christian Ndzie Tsoye, Simplice Fotsala, Arsene Fokou, Ulrich Yombo and Christelle Ndiang.

Nso said the first three athletes left on Sunday night, with two others declared missing on Monday and a further three leaving the village on Tuesday night.

"They took away everything, if they left a message we would have looked for them already".

"It's obviously disappointing that some athletes who have come to compete, didn't compete as scheduled", said Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg.

"We have also laid a formal complaint to the Australian police", he told Cameroon state broadcaster CRTV.

The eight athletes from the Camerons have disappeared in Australia without a trace, sparking a manhunt by the Australian Border Force.

Cyclist Michael Goolaerts dies at the Paris-Roubaix race
Belgian rider Michael Goolaerts has died of cardiac arrest after collapsing while competing in the Paris-Roubaix one-day classic. The Slovakian attacked 54 kilometers from the finish and bridged alone to the day's breakaway and drove the group to the finish.

Of those 100 athletes, 45 tried to stay in Australia, including athletes from Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Tanzania and Cameroon.

Australian Esther Qin, who along with Georgia Sheehan won the gold medal in the women's three-meter springbroad synchronized diving event, says she was more affected by the outdoor pool than the numerous technical difficulties.

Ridenour also placed 17th in the individual women's triathlon, with a time of 1:03:46, six minutes and 56 seconds back of first-place Flora Duffy of Bermuda.

Before the Games opened, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton warned athletes not to overstay their visas.

Anyone in Australia on a valid visa is legally entitled to claim asylum, but if that is what the Cameroon athletes are planning to do is unknown.

"I don't to be too blase about it but there are mechanisms to deal with it and it will be dealt with in the right way by that department".

"There is a mechanism in place", he said.
