At her memorial service in Orlando on Wednesday‚ speaker after speaker sang the praises of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela‚ who the nation learnt her family had nicknamed Big Mommy.
"I had seen her, I was here in 1974 when she came to the schools and said we were marching out".
The keynote address at today's memorial is being delivered by David Mabuza, South Africa's deputy president.
Ms Madikizela-Mandela steadfastly denied any knowledge of any killings.
In a speech, Molewa quoted Madikizela Mandela from an interview she had given in 1987.
