There's bad news about PlayStation 5 launch

Sony Playstation Logo Sony Might Roll Out the Next Generation PlayStation 5 This Year

Sources told Kotaku that Sony was looking at "every possible date".

This is an unlikely scenario if the console is indeed arriving this year, because if it was coming, it would already be in manufacturing, and game creators would be developing for it.

Right now, there are very limited details about the PS5, though a Kotaku report suggests that the console will play games that won't run on a PlayStation 4.

Most of the developers Schreier spoke with did not hear anything about plans for a new PlayStation, including employees at Sony's first-party studios and studios working on games scheduled for 2019 and beyond.

So, it's quite obvious a PlayStation 5 is in an engineering phase, whatever that actually means in terms of when the console gets announced. The sources from SemiAccurate claims that the Sony PlayStation 5 might launch in May this year. The publication added that the console would launch in 2018.

Chicago Cubs home opener postponed due to rain
Leading the way in hitting for the Cubs coming into this week was Kris Bryant with 12 hits, six RBI, two homers and five runs. Javier Baez is starting to come around at the plate, driving in three runs with four walks in his last three games.

Instead of figuring out when the PlayStation 5 will be launched, gamers should instead enjoy what the PlayStation 4 offers. In that case, there would have been supply chain leaks all over the place. After all, those early kits are often generic pieces of hardware that aren't specifically tied to the final design of a next-gen console. As such, even if there are any such devkits they may be well disguised.

One interesting thing Schreier did learn is that most think the PlayStation 5 will run games that won't run on PlayStation 4 - another incremental, backwards compatible upgrade isn't expected.

Over the last couple of weeks, some wild rumors have been floating around suggesting that PlayStation 5 dev kits are already in the wild, with the console set to release either this year or next year.

Because of this, the report argues that the PS5 could be released in 2018. In fact, word on the street with actual developers seems to be hinting at a potential 2020 release date. It's not uncommon for new console rumors to start popping up at around this point in the life cycle, but according to sources, we are still a few years away from a new console.
