"Charges for transmission of data over a cellular connection, including any location-related data, would be governed by a user's mobile carrier plan", Google said. Now, Oracle has come out in the open by repeating the same allegations to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in a presentation.

The probe followed information supplied by U.S. software company Oracle, which reportedly told the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) it believed Android devices transferred up to a gigabyte of data, including detailed location information, every month to Google.

The Australian investigation is linked to allegations made in an Oracle report about the impact of Google and Facebook on the advertising market.

Oracle has accused Google of spying on Android users in Australia, but that is not all - Oracle has claimed that Google is using 1 GB data of Android users themselves for this spying.

Volvo will strengthen its partnership with Google by adding more of the USA tech firm's features to its Android-derived infotainment system.

Mariners' Cano may need surgery on broken hand
Robinson Cano left Seattle's game at Detroit in the third inning Sunday with a broken right hand after being hit by a pitch . After a brief examination by the Seattle trainer, Cano left the game and was replaced by infielder Andrew Romine .

The apps, once installed, take measures to stay on the device, disappear and wipe their tracks, including waiting for hours before launching malicious activity to avoid arousing suspicion and requesting admin privileges - using the Google Play icon when doing so to feign legitimacy.

As per the report, Oracle experts have said that consumer data gets used even if Google Maps is not in use or Aeroplane mode is switched on. They also argue that that despite Google's characterization of the feature as "opt-in", their investigation of the service "found that the consent process frequently mischaracterizes the service and degrades the functionality of products in order to push users into providing permission".

"The result is that Google, the unit of Alphabet behind Android, has access to data about individuals' locations and their movements that go far beyond a reasonable consumer expectation of privacy", the Quartz report says. Presently, a gigabyte of data costs about $3.60-$4.50 a month.

A tech giant is being investigated for its data collection practices, but this time it isn't Facebook. Oracle's accusations hint that Google may not be complying with their own policies.

For context, Oracle has actively been in court with Google for more than 5 years over whether Android's usage of Java was considered fair use, and is certainly not an unbiased party.
