Wolfe came up with "radical chic" to brand pretentious liberals, the "me decade" to sum up the self-indulgence of the 1970s and the "right stuff" to quantify intangible characteristics of the first USA astronauts and their test pilot predecessors. Having championed the merits of reportage over contemporary fiction, he finally turned to the novel in mid-life, scoring huge commercial success with The Bonfire of the Vanities, a bustling satire on New York's social and racial divide.

Multiple outlets credit Wolfe as a creator of "New Journalism", a style that combined traditional reporting and immersive writing.

Wolfe, known for his signature white suit, was easily recognizable when taking walks in his neighborhood. Nine years later and in a more restrained style than some of his earlier works, he wrote The Right Stuff about the first seven U.S. astronauts and test pilot Chuck Yeager who came before them. The resulting bestseller, The Bonfire Of The Vanities, defined the late-1980s era of Wall Street ambition, power and money. "We mourn the loss of this literary master and New York City icon, and are proud that through his archive, we can keep his words and legacy alive for generations to come". He didn't just help me to become a writer.

Oil Prices steady: OPEC says it could offset Iranian supply losses
But how much those exports fall will depend on the reaction of the countries that import Iranian oil: China, France, Russia, U.K. Speaking to analysts, Scaffardi said the lack of Iranian crude supplies would be a problem in terms of prices but not volumes.

"I thought so many times about what went wrong", DiNovi said in the book.

His contributions to American literature were varied and very influential in the '60s and '70s when he wrote "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test", "Radical Chic & Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers", "The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby".

Wolfe didn't begin his novels with a character and a plot so much as an idea, Tom Vitale of NPR explained. He is survived by his wife Sheila, the cover designer for Harper's Magazine, his daughter Alexandra, and son Tommy. He had two children.
