The Associated Press (AP) reported that Seaman, a former college football player, briefly spoke with reporters on Monday and addressed his actions on that day. Before becoming a high school teacher and coach, Seaman played for the Southern Illinois football team. On Friday morning, he shot a science teacher and another student in the class of secondary school Wellsville West.

An Indiana teacher, who potentially saved countless lives when he tackled a student gunman inside a middle school classroom Friday, says he did what he had to do. Whistler was shot in a classroom Friday, May 25, 2018 at Noblesville West Middle School in Noblesville, Ind., near Indianapolis.

"If it weren't for him, more of us would have been injured for sure", seventh-grader Ethan Stonebraker said. "I deeply care for my students and their well-being, so that's why I did what I did that day", Jason Seaman said at a press briefing on Monday in Noblesville.

Seaman spoke for just a few minutes. His shirt also showed the initials EW, honoring injured student Ella Whistler. The young girl was in critical yet stable condition, with school principal Stacey Swan adamant she's been improving. "We all should continue to keep her in our minds as she continues to recover".

One student fractured an ankle during Friday's active shooter situation, while Seaman-and 13-year-old student, Ella Whistler-were shot.

Beth Niedermeyer, the Noblesville Schools Superintendent says, "He put his own life in danger for his students".

Obviously they got the first goal and the crowd was into it and all, and I didn't like the first part of the second period. It was the first time the Knights had trailed at home in regulation in the play-offs but they levelled through Karlsson.

At a vigil Saturday, Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-Ind.) says Seaman is an "overnight hero". "To all the students, you are all wonderful and I thank you for your support".

Authorities haven't release the shooter's name.

Shortly after the shooting he wrote to them, "You are the reason I teach" a message he also wore today.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Seaman and has raised more than $66,000.

Last week, police said a student opened fire inside a classroom.

Part of that effort was evident Monday at Noblesville High School's baseball games. The district said counselors will be on hand at other schools, and that counseling services will continue into next school year.
