White House refuses to say why Trump hasn't fired Sessions despite criticism

Trump lobbied for months to have Jeff Sessions take control of the Russia probe — despite Sessions being a key witness in the investigation Trump Takes Aim at Sessions Again for Recusal in Russia Probe

"I don't know, but [FBI Director] Chris Wray and [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein have at least made it clear to us, Donald Trump was never the target of the investigation", Gowdy said.

"I don't think so, I think what the president is doing is expressing frustration that Attorney General Sessions should have feared these reasons for recusal before he took the job, not afterward", Gowdy said.

"And when he asks, 'Should I have done that?' I say, 'No, the way it is now has worked out, '" Giuliani said, adding that he did not believe Trump would fire Sessions.

Trump has repeatedly referred to investigations of collusion between Russian Federation and his campaign as a "witch hunt" and tweeted his regret Wednesday for appointing Jeff Sessions as attorney general because he recused himself from overseeing the Russian Federation probe.

He quoted a Republican lawmaker as criticizing Sessions for not telling the president before becoming attorney general that he would have to recuse himself from the investigation.

"I think when the president finds out what happened, he is going to be not just fine, he is going to be glad that we have an Federal Bureau of Investigation that took seriously what they heard", he added.

Hannity said he agrees with Gowdy on a lot of issues, but that the former Greenville prosecutor should recognize the amount of "anti-Trump Democratic donors" that Robert Mueller has stacked his investigative team with.

Alberto brings little rain to Volusia/Flagler area
National Hurricane Center forecasters said that as of 11 a.m., the storm was about 130 miles (210 kilometers) southwest of Tampa. By midday Sunday, the US Southeast was seeing 50-mile-per-hour (80-km-per-hour) winds and up to 10 inches of rain in some places.

Trump added, "And I wish I did!"

So, to recap: Trump's campaign was holding secret meetings with Russians who wanted to help his campaign.

Presidential attorney Rudy Giuliani and former Trump campaign adviser Sam Nunberg say Mr. Trump acted within the bounds of his presidential authority. Control of the investigation was shifted to Mueller when he was appointed special counsel after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey in May 2017.

"They don't like him, they don't think he should be in the office, and they think they know better than you and me - we that voted for him", Nunberg insisted. Sessions could then have run in the Alabama special election to win back the rest of his term in the Senate, and Trump could have picked an AG without any connections to his campaign. He could have picked someone else.

Sessions's decision to recuse came at a time of mounting criticism from Democrats and Republicans following a story from the Washington Post reporting he had spoken twice with Russia's ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak, without disclosing it during his confirmation hearing.

After being berated by Trump over the recusal decision last spring, Sessions offered his resignation, but the overture was rejected.
