BlackBerry KEY2 with 4.5-inch display and physical QWERTY keypad goes official

Featuring a BlackBerry physical keyboard and loaded with BlackBerry's best security and privacy enhancements, the all-new smartphone packs a number of features that are firsts for any BlackBerry smartphone, the company said in a statement.

We do know the price for the BlackBerry KEY2, though, which will be set at $649.

The BlackBerry KeyOne's single 12-megapixel camera was decent enough, even if it wasn't remarkable. So far, all that's been said is that the KEY2 will begin rolling out globally this month.

The keyboard was pretty good on the KeyOne, but it's better here. The KEY2 is a direct successor to last year's KEYone and retains the same general design while offering upgraded specs across the board.

The KeyOne's keys are quite small and finished with a glossy coating. The metal frets between each row of keys have also been removed.

New on the KEY2 is a speed key which works like a Function key.

For example, you can hold the Speed KEY + W which opens Whatsapp or Speed + M which can open maps or messages depending on your preset choice or Speed Key + I which opens Instagram. The whole keyboard still works like a trackpad too.

Sane and Benteke join Man Utd and Barcelona stars left out
Of course, that adventure and "Road to the World Cup " unfortunately didn't last long for the former Schalke man. Sane, 22, played a key role for Manchester City who won the English Premier League title and Carabao Cup.

Both keyboards have a touch sensitive surface so that you can swipe up and down through lists, as well as left and right.

The keyboard has been redesigned.

If it's anything like the KeyOne in real life use, the screen should be sharp, accurate and pleasant to look at on the Key2.

The BlackBerry KEY² will be available in Black and Silver.

The gadget has a 4.5 inch IPS LCD display with a 1620*1080p resolution, 434ppi pixel density, an aspect ratio of 3:2 and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 level protection. The BlackBerry KEY2 brings noticeable changes over its predecessor, including a design overhaul and dual camera module on the rear panel. Another new feature with the camera is that when you take a photo using the fingerprint sensor as the shutter button, the image will be saved to a special photo locker. There should also be improvements to white balance and focussing.

Other notable details include support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 tech, a built-in microSD card slot for expandable storage, and a big focus on in-UI (the KEY2 runs a version of Android 8.1 Oreo) privacy features like private folders that prevent their contents from being backed up and uploaded to the cloud, and a private web browser that doesn't track browsing activity. Starting price for the phone is $649. Having increased the RAM is a nice touch here as multitasking could feel sluggish on the KeyOne.

With the revival of the BlackBerry brand as a Android phone, market share has started creeping back up, reaching three per cent in Canada a year ago, according to comScore.
