Aged 44, Therese Patricia Okoumou managed to scale the base structure of the statue around 3.30 p.m. and was taken in by the police after three hours.

The activists said the climber was not a member of their group.
A group that organized a protest at the statue earlier Wednesday says she also took part in unfurling a banner at the statue's pedestal.
Jay Walker, an organizer with Rise and Resist which opposes the Trump administration's policies, aaid the other demonstrators had no idea Okoumou would make the ascent, which wasn't part of the planned protest.
Television images showed two officers in climbing harnesses and helmets grabbing the woman as she reclined near the upturned right foot of the giant statue. The ordeal lasted roughly four hours.
Those who were arrested had dropped a banner that read "Abolish ICE" from the statue's base, a reference to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to media reports.

Okoumou, who has reportedly had encounters with law enforcement during prior politically charged protests, was ultimately removed from the statue, arrested, and charged with federal trespassing and disorderly conduct.
