Later on Sunday, Mnangagwa said in a video posted on Facebook that Chamisa had "forged a deal" with Mugabe and that a vote for the opposition leader amounted to an endorsement of the old order.

Zimbabwe's rival presidential candidates both claimed Tuesday they were heading for election victory, setting up a tense count in the country's first vote since the ouster of longtime ruler Robert Mugabe.

Mnangagwa also called on "citizens and candidates alike to exercise responsibility and restraint by patiently waiting" for official results.
Nelson Chamisa's MDC Alliance has been warned "to safeguard victory" after the party announced victory before official confirmation from ZEC.
