Virat Kohli and Vinod Kambli have something in common; the latter reveals

Kohli, whose run out of opposing captain Joe Root sparked a dramatic first-innings collapse by England, playing their 1,000th Test, was eventually out when he cut Rashid to Stuart Broad at backward point.

Root was looking set to get a big one but a brilliant piece of fielding from Kohli saw the right-hander getting run-out for 80.

Only Cook fell in the first session, his front-foot defence defeated by a flawless off-break from Ashwin - repaying his introduction in only the seventh over, despite being India's sole spinner here, with telling drift from round the wicket before the ball turned and dislodged the off-bail.

It was the second time in the match that Ashwin had dismissed Cook, England's all-time leading Test run-scorer, this way.

Kohli did what he has been doing again and again in worldwide cricket for the past 5-6 years.

Kohli opened his shoulders late in his knock and finished with a total of 22 fours and a six off his penultimate ball as he successfully hogged the strike to demonstrate his excellent game management.

He brought up his century off 172 balls, his 22nd in Test cricket and his fourth against England.

Donald Trump denies all, attacking Mueller and Cohen over Russia probe
He also told CNN: "He's been lying all week, he's been lying for years". "I don't see how he has any credibility". The sources said Cohen does not have any evidence, including tapes, to back up his claims.

"That century will have given Kohli so much confidence, not just for the rest of this match but for the rest of the series".

India captain Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 53 after Dawid Malan twice dropped him at second slip. Among them was former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar who was generous in his appreciation for Kohli. But the very fact that Kohli plays all three formats so well makes him a more hard player to stop [for any captain].

Things could have been worse as three balls later, Kohli (on 0*) edged Anderson to Jos Buttler at gully with the fielder failing to latch onto a tough chance despite putting in a fine dive.

Once Hardik Pandya was dismissed on a beautifully swinging delivery from Sam Curran, it looked as if the Indian innings was nearing its end.

Eyebrows were raised when England named their team on the day before the opening Test started in Birmingham, and that was not purely because of Adil Rashid's recall.

Though India limped to 76 for three at lunch, the post-lunch session bought no respite with all rounder Stokes picking up two wickets to reduce the visitors to 100-5. Pitched outside off, Bairstow gets a thick edge which Shikhar Dhawan holds on to at slips.

Stokes, introduced after lunch, showed why he is such an important part of this England side with an aggressive spell.
