Shasta County, in Northern California, is the site of the deadly Carr Fire, which reportedly claimed a seventh victim on Saturday.

Cal Fire said on August 3 that the Ranch Fire, which is burning northeast of Ukiah, had consumed about 115,250 acres since it started on July 27, with firefighters managing to contain about 28 percent of the blaze.

At its peak, the Carr Fire forced more than 35,000 Shasta and Trinity county residents to seek temporary shelter and led to the evacuations of thousands more. "We are routinely now seeing fires reach 100,000 acres several times in one month and it's only July, so we have a long way to go in this fire season, and as we saw a year ago fire season can go right up through December".

Nearly 3,500 personnel, alongside 419 fire engines and 15 helicopters, have taken part of the firefighting efforts.

"The president has been pretty good on helping us in disasters, so I'm hopeful", said Brown, a Democrat.

The National Weather Service issued warnings for critical fire weather conditions into Saturday, saying a series of dry low-pressure systems passing through the region would bring afternoon gusts up to 35 miles per hour (56 kph).

"These kinds of frightful situations bring people together, regardless of the lesser kind of ideologies and partisan considerations", Brown told a news conference Saturday. The fire has destroyed more than 1,000 homes.

However, most evacuations were lifted by Saturday in and around Redding, where armies of firefighters and fleets of aircraft continue battling an huge blaze about 100 miles south of the OR line.

The Sacramento Bee, citing Cal Fire, reported that more than 14,000 firefighters were battling 17 blazes across the state.

CBN News' Heather Sells is in California covering the wildfires.

Despite the outlook, strong gusts along the upper ridge lines were a concern on the fire's rugged western flanks, a few miles from the town of Lewiston, which remained evacuated. In all, they have destroyed hundreds of homes, killed eight people - including four firefighters - and shut down Yosemite National Park.

The blaze has killed two firefighters. Yellow areas represent the fire perimeter.

The Carr Fire, located some 322 kilometers north of San Francisco, is still growing, CalFire said today.

Fire whirls, also know as fire tornadoes or fire devils, often erupt of large wildfires and footage which has emerged of the Carr Fire shows the cyclone of flames ripping through a town in the U.S. state yesterday. The fire near Covelo prompted evacuation orders for about 60 homes in the farming and ranching area on the edge of the Mendocino National Forest. Varney's radio wasn't communicating with headquarters, so his assistant relayed messages - until they lost contact.

He says fire whirls are common, but not at the intensity recorded on July 26.

The report called for better "risk assessment" among firefighters.
