Health advocacy groups blasted the Environmental Protection Agency's plan to roll back Obama-era limits on coal-fired power plant emissions, with one group arguing the changes could result in more than 1,000 avoidable deaths a year in the US while doing nothing to address climate change.

Other critics are pointing out that EPA's own analysis predicts the new proposal would result in more deaths.

The Obama-era plan was created to scale back greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

The Trump administration unveiled its long-anticipated plans Tuesday to clean up pollution from power plants, but it's not clear that the proposal will change electric power in Utah. The Supreme Court put the brakes on it in 2016 after energy-producing states sued the EPA, saying it had exceeded its legal reach.

The increase in pollutants is also expected to bring up to 96,000 new cases of exacerbated asthma by 2030, the EPA's figures show.

He said that at the present time, the TVA stands at just more than 30% day-to-day power generation coming from nuclear and between 20 and 25% coming from coal.

"We're not gonna have a coal power plant floating around", Pelosi said during a discussion about energy policy at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco.

What are the main differences between the Trump administration's proposals and the clean power plan?

The attacker, who has not been identified, shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is great), according to French TV station BFM. The attacker who was shot by Police, was reportedly an ISIS backed attacker, and I.S. has claimed responsibility.

Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., the chairman of the Congressional Coal Caucus, said Trump is keeping his promise to "revitalize the coal industry". Under Clean Power, each state was assigned emission reduction targets.

Coal stocks have risen since the Trump administration announced Monday that it plans to roll back Obama-era regulations on emissions from coal-fired power plants that have resulted in hundreds of such facilities closing over the past few years. The argument has not yet been tested in court, although opposition to the rule proposed today may give the administration a chance to try it out.

Kevin Drumm at Mother Jones takes a look at the increased death rates expected from the Trump administration's rollback of air standards for coal-burning power plants and finds Arkansas will be one of the big losers.

"President Donald Trump gave us a deadly coal plan, a deadly coal plan that will expose our children and our families to deadly air because of coal pollution", Inslee said.

The EPA estimates that the ACE rule could reduce 2030 Carbon dioxide emission by up to 1.5 percent from projected levels without the CPP, which amounts to taking 5.3 million cars off the road.

Bill Wehrum, the assistant administrator for EPA's Office of Air and Radiation, acknowledged there would be collateral effects on conventional pollutants, but stressed the agency will continue addressing that through other regulations.

Trump has vowed to end what Republicans call a "war on coal" waged by Obama.

Scientists say that without extensive study, they can not directly link a single weather event to climate change, but that it is responsible for more intense and more frequent extreme events such as storms, droughts, floods and wildfires.
