Sessions' job is safe until at least midterms, Trump says

Lead Phil Mattingly live Jim Sciutto_00022821 Trump Wants To Fire Sessions Because He 'Talks Like He Has Marbles In His Mouth': Report

When President Donald Trump nominated Jeff Sessions to be his attorney general, we were aghast.

When asked in the Bloomberg News interview whether he would comply if Mr Mueller issued a subpoena for him to appear for questioning, Mr Trump said: "I'll see what happens".

Seized by paroxysms of anger, Trump has intermittently pushed to fire his attorney general since March 2017, when Sessions announced his recusal from the Russian Federation investigation. "He won't. He might get fired, but I don't think he'll quit".

SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM: The problems between the White House and the president and Attorney General Sessions go well beyond the recusal. "I wanted to stay out, but at some point if it doesn't straighten out properly ..."

But despite Trump's unhappiness with Sessions, when asked if he would keep him employed past midterms, Bloomberg reports, Trump declined to answer.

"I just would love to have him do a great job", Bloomberg quoted Mr Trump as saying. Now Graham believes Trump should fire Sessions.

It has sent out invitations to its annual WWDC event yesterday with the words "Gather round" under a large golden circle. The device will be called the iPhone XS and will come in two different sizes: 5.8-inches and 6.5-inches.

Meanwhile, Trump's lawyers had previously warned a dismissal of Sessions would help special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation of any potential obstruction of justice involving Trump. "I view it as an illegal investigation" because "great scholars" have said that "there should never have been a special counsel".

Last week, in an interview with Fox, Trump lashed out at Sessions, saying he failed to take control of the Department of Justice.

"I view it differently", Trump said.

The comments prompted a pointed response from Sessions, who said in a statement that "While I am Attorney General, the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations".

The president also said that the only reason he named Sessions attorney general was the former Alabama senator's early support in the 2016 presidential election.
