The ad is a stunning photograph of Kaepernick's face, with the words, "Believe in something".

Immediately, some people began posting pictures of socks and shoes being defaced or destroyed, or declaring they would be soon switching allegiances to Adidas, Brooks or Converse.

"I think it's a bad message that [Nike] are sending and the goal of them doing it, maybe there's a reason for them doing it", Trump told the Daily Caller on Tuesday.

He inspired many other players to join in, earning the ire of people including Donald Trump, and the protest has cost Kaepernick his National Football League contract.

Kaepernick made headlines and stirred controversy in 2016 for being one of the first NFL players to kneel during the National Anthem as a way of protesting police brutality and racial injustice in America.

Serena Williams praised Nike for creating a "powerful statement" by making Colin Kaepernick the face of an advertising campaign.

Surprisingly, Trump did not immediately join in on the attacks, but told the Daily Caller today, "I think it's a bad message".

Amazon Hits $1 Trillion
The company's stock has surged more than 70 percent since January, outperforming Apple, which has gained more than 30 percent. In the second quarter, AWS booked $6.1 billion in sales (up 49%), and generated an operating income of $1.64 billion (up 79%).

Over the weekend, Nike finally took a political stand with a new ad featuring Colin Kaepernick.

A lot of the mentions were overwhelmingly negative, with many people expressing their displeasure about the campaign by going so far as to burn their Nike products or cut out the famous swoosh logo.

However, many others were in full support of Nike's choice to use Kapernick.

Monday, Kaepernick, who started the national anthem protests in preseason 2016 while riding the bench for the San Francisco 49ers, tweeted out his big announcement, which declared that you must "Believe in something". Even if it means sacrificing everything.' He wrote out the statement alongside a Just Do It hashtag.

Nike did not immediately return Business Insider's request for comment on the boycott threats.

He has an active collusion grievance against the NFL, as he alleges football team owners colluded to deny him a contract as punishment for his role in organizing protests by players.
