The moment when @AyannaPressley learned she won.

Later during Pressley's victory party, her stepdaughter Cora stood in silence with tears rolling down her face as she listened to Pressley speak. Her opponent seemed to have the money and the loyalty of a popular incumbent.

Capuano is considered one of the most liberal members of the MA delegation, and Pressley had acknowledged she had few major policy quarrels with him. REUTERS/Brian SnyderIncumbent U.S. Representative Mike Capuano (D-MA) wears an "I Voted" sticker after casting his ballot in the Massachusetts Primary Election in Somerville, Massachusetts, U.S., September 4, 2018.

The House seat that Pressley is running for has no Republican challenger, which means that her win against Capuano sees her heading to Washington in November.

Pressley's campaign drew national attention after she was compared to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic Socialist from The Bronx, New York, who scored a surprise upset against a longtime congressman in June.

Ayanna Pressley, right, upset ten-term U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano in a Democratic primary Tuesday night.

She will head to Congress to represent the 7th District of MA, the Boston-area district once represented by John F. Kennedy. Pressley was endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez, and has been profiled in several news outlets.

Amazon Hits $1 Trillion
The company's stock has surged more than 70 percent since January, outperforming Apple, which has gained more than 30 percent. In the second quarter, AWS booked $6.1 billion in sales (up 49%), and generated an operating income of $1.64 billion (up 79%).

In nearby Connecticut, Jahana Hayes is on track to become that state's first black woman to win a congressional seat if she prevails in November.

Democrats need to pick up 23 seats to take a majority in the House of Representatives, and two to take control of the Senate, if they are to serve as an effective foil to Trump's agenda.

Though results were coming in slowly and the race had yet to be called, Capuano conceded just 80 minutes after polls closed. She also worked for former senator John Kerry. Kennedy, the grandson of the late U.S. Sen.

Another 10-term incumbent went down to defeat in a Democratic primary Tuesday night.

Coupled with Pressley's compelling candidacy, a low-turnout primary the day after Labor Day, and district lines that were redrawn in 2011, Capuano was clearly vulnerable. Pressley, though, was already a well-known figure in MA politics, and the race was seen as close and competitive for months.

Pressley has always been a Democratic star in the making who's been closely watched since her 2015 speech at an EMILY's List event headlined by Hillary Clinton - but, with no members of Congress retiring, had no path to the national stage. "People of every walk of life".
