According to police, they have drawn a blood sample from the officer to test for drugs and alcohol and are in the process of obtaining a warrant.

According to the Associated Press, "A Dallas police officer returning home from work shot and killed a neighbor after she said she mistook his apartment for her own, police said Friday".

Officials were still concealing the identity of the police officer accused of mistakenly entering a Dallas apartment on Friday and killing the Black man who lived there.

Fellow officers were called to the scene where they administered first aid to the 26-year-old victim.

The officer who shot Jean was the one who reported the shooting.

Sgt. Warren Mitchell, a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department, says he can't yet explain how the situation involving the off-duty officer and Jean escalated to the shooting.

Jean has been identified as a native of St. Lucia who graduated in 2016 from Harding University in Arkansas.

"We need to push past our initial grief", said Dr. Michael W. Waters, pastor of Joy Tabernacle African Methodist Episcopal Church in Dallas.

Hall said the Texas Rangers would take over the investigation because of the "unique" nature of the incident.

Lawmakers come down hard on Google for skipping Senate hearing
In a statement to HuffPost, Google said it's been diligent in briefing lawmakers on the political interference issue in the past. Google, which was also invited to the hearing, did not send a representative.

It is not known if anything was said between the officer and Mr Jean before he was shot.

Details were sparse and it was unclear why the Dallas police department remained so silent; unless, of course, it was trying to massage the implausible narrative it was trying to push surrounding the suspicious shooting.

Authorities have not said how the officer got into Jean's home, or whether his door was open or unlocked.

"My heart goes with you my boy...never thought this day would come, wanted to be there for you always my boy...how can this nasty world take you away from me", Earl wrote. Dallas Fire Rescue transported Jean to a hospital where he later died. She said she spoke to Jean's sister to express condolences to the family.

She said there are more questions than answers.

After entering the unit, she was confronted by a 26-year-old man.

The company in a statement said "we are simply heartbroken to hear of his death".
