USA warns new Syrian chemical strikes will get 'much stronger response'

Intense air raids reported on edge of Syria's rebel-held Idlib Ceasefire talks fail as airstrikes target last rebel-held region in Syria

The renewed strikes came a day after the leaders of rebel backer Turkey and regime allies Russian Federation and Iran failed at the summit in Tehran to agree on how to stave off a threatened offensive on the northwestern province of Idlib.

On Saturday, the United States' top general said he and Trump have "routine dialogue" about possible military consequences if the Syrian regime uses chemical weapons in Idlib.

For his part, Black said he is "deeply concerned about achieving peace and stopping the slaughter in the Middle East" and anxious about America being drawn more deeply into the Syrian civil war.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley echoed this warning on Thursday during a United Nations Security Council meeting on chemical weapons use in Syria.

But Russian and Syrian regime air raids on Idlib have intensified in recent days, with a hospital among the targets.

The territory is home to some three million civilians, with almost half already displaced by fighting elsewhere.

Is this the beginning of the end to the seven year war in Syria?

That happened to be an Obama Administration official expressing support for the jihadists, and when he was asked by his interviewer "Did the world fail Syria?" he answered "Sure".

Erdoğan said the US, which is focused on chemical attacks by the Assad regime, needed to "reject its arbitrary hierarchy of death". About 2,000 US troops are now operating in Syria, a lot of them in the eastern region of the country. But the Pentagon pushed for a more measured response, US officials said, and the idea was eventually rejected as too risky. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy.

"On the other side, we have the Turks who fear an influx of hundreds of thousands of people into their country and the Turks also maintain a dozen observation posts inside Idlib as well", Ms Abouzeid said.

This way, Turkey's President Erdogan can safely keep his 50,000 troops in Idlib if he wishes; America's President Trump can claim victory in Syria and finally fulfill his long-promised intention to end the US occupation of (most of the jihadist-controlled) parts of Syria (which they've occupied), and maybe WW III can be avoided, or, at least, postponed, maybe even so that people living today won't be dying-off from WW III and its after-effects.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that a Syrian government offensive in the country's northern region of Idlib would cause humanitarian and security risks for Turkey, Europe and beyond. "Don't let that happen!"

The Russian Ministry of Defense warned on Sunday that terrorist groups, including Jabhat Al-Nusra and the infamous White Helmets, are preparing to stage a chemical attack to give the Western coalition a pretext to strike Assad again. "We have political tools at our disposal, we have economic tools at our disposal".

Kurdish forces control most of Qamishli, but regime fighters and allied militiamen hold part of the city and its airport.

Nicholas Heras, a researcher at the Centre for New American Security, said the spike in Russian raids on Saturday aimed to put pressure on Turkey to agree to a deal for a regime takeover of Idlib.
