Bolton confirmed that the State Department's decision to close the PLO office was informed by "congressional concern with Palestinian attempts to prompt an ICC investigation of Israel".

The move comes a day after the US closed the Palestinian de facto embassy in Washington because of its leaders' refusal to enter peace talks with Israel.

Bolton also said the ICC had informed the us that it will soon open a "formal investigation" into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by USA troops in Afghanistan.

Internationally-brokered peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians have stalled since 2014 and Israeli settlements in the occupied territories have steadily expanded.

The plans have sparked global outcry over the continued displacement of Palestinians by Israel.

Both Erekat and Zomlot pledged to push forward with Palestinian efforts at the ICC, where the chief prosecutor has already opened a preliminary probe into the allegations of rights abuses by the Israelis. They are not only anti-Palestinian, but also anti-Israel and anti-peace. "The Trump administration wants to dismantle the global order to ensure that it can stay above the laws and escape accountability". "We will not cooperate with the ICC", Bolton said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the US administration's "clear stance in the matter".

France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom said on Monday its strategic location is important to maintain "contiguity of a future Palestinian state".

Juan Martin del Potro , of Argentina, reacts after Rafael Nadal , of Spain, retired from a match during the semifinals of the U.S. You could imagine very hard for me to say good-bye before the match finish. "It means the world to me obviously", he added.

The move was made in response to the latest USA decision to shut down the PLO delegation office in Washington. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the USA for its "correct decision".

"These moves aimed at pressing the Palestinian administration and indicated a mistaken understanding for the Palestinian historical struggle", Aboul-Gheit said.

Explaining the U.S. decision to shutter the mission, the State Department accused Palestinian leaders of refusing to engage with the United States and Israel.

This week, the Trump team announced it was closing the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Washington over what it described as Palestinian leaders' refusal to engage seriously in peace efforts.

Husam Zomlot, head of the PLO mission in Washington, called the closure of the office "bullying and blackmailing" and said the USA government was "blindly executing Israel's 'wish list'".

Later, it announced it would not provide assistance funding any more for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

Trump's decision has left UNRWA trying to cover a $200 million shortfall from Gulf and European donors, and has further strained tensions between Washington and the Palestinian leadership.
